Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). Campus de Botucatu. Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas (FCA)  (Instituição Sede da última proposta de pesquisa)
País de origem: Brasil

I graduated in Agronomy at University of Sao Paulo State, Faculty of Agronomic Sciences (UNESP-FCA) in 1987, Brazil; MSc in Molecular Biology at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 1991, Belgium; PhD in Biological Sciences-Genetics at University of Sao Paulo State (UNESP in 1995, Brazil). At the moment I am Senior Scientist, Project Leader and Head of Tropical Microbial Ecology Unit (TropME) of the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO/KNAW), Wageningen, The Netherlands and Professor in Microbial Community Ecology & Environmental Genomics of Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands. My expertise are on ecological and environmental genomics, genomics, soil microbial ecology, molecular ecology, microbiology and bionformatics. My primary research interest is on understanding the patterns and mechanisms of interactions among soil-borne microbes and their environment, how these interactions shape the structure and affect the functioning of microbial communities and, consequently, of ecosystems. My major topics are microbial diversity loss, climate change, land use change and bio-informatics. Besides the coordination and execution of many Dutch and international fundamental research programs I am also strongly involved in the development of bio-based tools which can be used in soil health and environmental quality.
