Resumo

O desenvolvimento de novos materiais para lasers do estado sólido, baseados em cristais, vidros e vitro-cerâmicas dopados com terras-raras, é uma área ativa na pesquisa atual. Para facilitar o projeto de materiais com propriedades otimizadas é essencial que se obtenha informações estruturais detalhadas a nível atômico, relacionadas com o ambiente de coordenação das terras-raras até a segunda esfera, bem como o grau de agrupamentos dos íons e a sua distribuição nas micro- e nano-fases do material composto. Neste projeto busca-se alcançar um conhecimento fundamental das propriedades espectroscópicas e foto-físicas destes materiais com base na sua estrutura, combinando-se as técnicas da ressonância paramagnética eletrônica, RPE. Os sistemas a serem estudados serão os vidros e vitro-cerâmicas baseados em composições de fluoretos, fluorofosfatos, fluoroboratos e fluoroaluminatos. Com esta finalidade será estabelecida, através da RPE, uma estratégia apropriada para caracterizar o ambiente local dos íons emissores. A informação obtida a partir desta abordagem e a sua correlação com as propriedades óticas dos materiais serão importantes para o desenvolvimento de novas metodologias para o projeto de lasers de alta potência.
