Resumo

A comunicação animal é amplamente conhecida para diferentes táxons animais especialmente dentro de contextos reprodutivos e territoriais. O sinal acústico mais comum emitido pelos machos anuros durante a estação reprodutiva é o canto de anúncio que em geral é espécie-específico, tendo uma fundamental importância no reconhecimento específico das espécies. Além de ter aplicabilidade direta na taxonomia do grupo, os caracteres acústicos dos anuros modernos têm sido utilizados em diversos estudos macro-evolutivos, com o intuito de avaliar os possíveis processos que causaram os padrões observados nas espécies viventes. O gênero Pseudopaludicola Miranda-Ribeiro, 1926 abriga 18 espécies que ocorrem principalmente em ambientes abertos da América do Sul. Dentre essas espécies, quinze já possuem o canto de anúncio descrito. O principal objetivo desse estudo é aprimorar por meio de uma abordagem integrativa o conhecimento taxonômico da real riqueza de espécies de Pseudopaludicola. Além disso, a partir dos resultados obtidos com o táxon modelo, contribuir para o reconhecimento de padrões e discutir os processos evolutivos que potencialmente atuaram na evolução de caracteres fenotípicos (canto e morfologia) ao longo da história evolutiva dos anuros neotropicais.
