Resumo

Este projeto propõe o estudo e desenvolvimento da tecnologia de comunicações ópticas em seu mais alto nível, com especial atenção às transmissões em altas taxas, visando viabilizar a nova geração de internet. Este projeto envolve sete (7) instituições associadas: cinco (5) instituições acadêmicas e duas (2) empresas de alta tecnologia localizadas no estado de São Paulo, sendo a Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) a instituição sede. As outras quatro (4) Instituições acadêmicas estão localizadas fora do estado de São Paulo; duas (2) no Nordeste do Brasil: Universidade Federal da Bahia e a Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, e duas (2) nos EUA: University of Columbia e a Bell Labs. Nossa proposta congrega especialistas em dispositivos avançados de nanofotônica e sistemas e redes de comunicações ópticas de alta capacidade, que terão ao seu dispor modernas instalações para modelagem, confecção e caracterização de dispositivos avançados e, também, uma plataforma óptica (Kyatera) onde novas ideias e aplicações podem ser testadas. Nossa equipe é composta de vinte e um (21) pesquisadores, dos quais treze (13) são da UNICAMP. Dentre esse total de pesquisadores, nove (9) são professores recém contratados com alto potencial para pesquisa. Nosso principal objetivo é conduzir o plano de trabalho de uma maneira verdadeiramente sinergética ao longo do período de cinco anos, atingindo o estado-da-arte em termos de taxas de transmissão em comunicações ópticas, e, cumprindo as políticas públicas governamentais como aquelas estabelecidas na Estratégia Nacional de Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação, ENCTI, incluindo o Plano Nacional de Banda Larga, PNBL. Uma atenção especial será devotada à transferência dos nossos resultados à indústria local, em particular às duas empresas de alta tecnologia parceiras nesse projeto. A atração de estudantes talentosos de graduação será tratada com especial cuidado. (AU)
