Resumo

O objetivo geral do projeto será verificar se as populações de Mycteria americana, Jabiru mycteria, Platalea ajaja e Ardea alba estão estruturadas geneticamente e esclarecer como estavam distribuídas desde a última glaciação. Duas estratégias serão utilizadas: a) estudar populações de espécies diferentes dentro de uma mesma região e habitat para se determinar o grau de estruturação e diversidade intra-específica; b) estudar populações de uma mesma espécie em regiões diferentes para se determinar o grau de isolamento entre elas e sua distribuição desde um passado recente. Populações do manguezal ao norte do país, do Pantanal e dos banhados do RS serão estudadas. Sequências da região controladora do DNA mitocondrial e frequências em locos microssatélites embasarão os cálculos de Fst e a análise filogeográfica (NCA). Serão feitas inferências sobre o efeito do histórico populacional e o efeito geográfico na estrutura atual das populações. Espera-se produzir dados que dêem suporte às políticas de preservação da avifauna aquática do Pantanal e de outras áreas úmidas brasileiras. (AU)
