Maurício Pietrocola graduated in Physics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil (1984) with a Master degree in Science Education at the same University (1988) and a doctor degree in Epistemology and History of Science at the University of Paris VII (1992). He has begun his teaching career as a high school physics (1984-1988). From 1993 to 2002, He was an Adjoin professor in the Physics Department at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil. In 1999 he joined the Brazilian Physics Society as a Secretary of Education for two terms (1999-2001 and 2001-2003). In 2002 He joined IUPAP, being elected a member of the International Commission on Physics Education (2002 - 2005). In the following management became its vice-president (2005-2008). In 2013-2014 he was a distinguished visiting fellow in ARC and Urban Education Program, Graduate Center at the City University of York. The researcher has participated in the organization of different congress and seminars of national and international range in science teaching. Since 2002 he is a full professor of the Faculty of Education, at the University of São Paulo where he develops research on development of innovative strategies in science education and teachers training.
