Ronaldo Aloise Pilli

Professor Pilli holds BSc (1976) and PhD (1981)degrees from University of Campinas and post-doctoral training at University of California, Berkeley (1982-84). He has been visiting professor at Georg-August Universitat, Gottingen, Germany (1994) and at Warwick University, UK (2005). He is currently professor of Chemistry at University of Campinas working on synthetic chemistry, particularly organic synthesis of natural products and natural product-inspired compounds for biological studies. He has also several patents applications on the synthesis of pharmaceutical active ingredients such as methyl phenidate, tamoxifen, levobupivacine and fluoxetine. He has served the Brazilian Chemical Society as secretary of the division of Organic Chemistry and on the editorial board of Quimica Nova and the Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society and as head of the Institute of Chemistry and Vice-chancellor for Research at University of Campinas. Professor Pilli has received the Union Carbide Award (1989), the Silver Jubilee Award from the International Foundation for Science, Sweden (1999), the National Medal for Scientific Achievement (2006), the Zeferino Vaz Award from the University of Campinas (2008), the Simão Mathias Award from the Brazilian Chemical Society (2012) and the Teaching Award from University of Campinas (2018). He is a member of the São Paulo Science Academy and Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He has been involved with outreach programs (Chemistry in Action, Science&Arts Program and Brazilian Chemistry Olympiad) and is currently the head of the outreach program of the "Multidisciplinary Center for Obesity and Related Diseases" funded by FAPESP. He currently serves as member of the boards of Fundação Universidade Virtual do Estado de São Paulo (UNIVESP) and Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) where he is also the deputy president.
