Sérgio Ricardo de Carvalho Santos

Sérgio de Carvalho is a playwright, director and theatrical researcher. He is director of the theater group Companhia do Latão. He is a professor at the University of São Paulo. He has been working at the Department of Performing Arts at ECA-USP since 2005 and was a professor of aesthetics and theater theory at UNICAMP between 1996 and 2005. He has a master's degree in Performing Arts (1995), a doctorate in Brazilian Literature (2003) and became a full professor in Dramaturgy (2017). He has a degree in journalism and has collaborated with several communication vehicles, being a columnist for the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo. He gave conferences in countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Greece and Germany at institutions such as Brecht-Haus and Akademie der Künste in Berlin. He was awarded as a director by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba for staging Brecht's O Círculo de Giz Caucasiano, in 2008, and received the El Gallo de La Habana award, from Casa de las Américas, in 2023, for the work of the Companhia do Latão. Among his many plays are O Nome do Sujeito (1998), A Comédia do Trabalho (2000), Ópera dos Vivos (2010), Lugar Nenhum (2019), O Drama Impossível (2023). He edited the magazines Vintém, and Traulito. His books include Introduction to the Dialectic Theater (Expressão Popular, 2009), Companhia do Latão 7 Plays (Cosac Naify, 2008), Ópera dos Vivos (Outras Expressões, 2014), O Pão e a Pedra (Temporal, 2019) anda O Drama Impossível (2023). He was director of the TUSP-Teatro of the University of São Paulo and deputy director of the Maria Antonia University Center between 2018 and 2020, and participated in the Sabbatical Year Program of the IEA-Institute of Advanced Studies of USP in 2021. He directed the opera "Café" by Mário de Andrade at Theatro Municipal de São Paulo (2022). He works in the area of #8203;#8203;Arts, with an emphasis on Dramaturgy, and carries out research and studies on the relationship between Theater and Society. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
