Sérgio Ricardo de Carvalho Santos

Sérgio de Carvalho is a playwright, director and theater researcher, director of the artistic group Companhia do Latão. He is a professor at the University of São Paulo, where he has worked in the Department of Performing Arts since 2005, in the field of dramaturgy. He is currently a researcher in the Sabbatical Year Program at the IEA-Institute for Advanced Studies at USP with research on theatricalities in the 16th century. He has a master's degree in Performing Arts (1995), a doctorate in Brazilian Literature (2003) and a PhD in Drama (2017) from USP. He was a professor of Theater Theory at Unicamp between 1996 and 2005. He has a degree in journalism and has collaborated with several media outlets, being a columnist for the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo. He held conferences in countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Portugal, Greece and Germany. He was awarded as a director by the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists for the editing of Brecht's Caucasian Circle in 2008. Among his many shows are O Nome do Subject (1998), Comédia do Trabalho (2000), Ópera dos Vivos (2010) and Nowhere (2018). He edited the magazines Vintém, and Traulito. Among his books are Introduction to Dialectic Theater (Expressão Popular, 2009), Companhia do Latão 7 plays (Cosac Naify, 2008), Ópera dos Vivos (Other Expressions, 2014) and O Pão e a Pedra (Temporal, 2019). He was director of TUSP-Teatro at the University of São Paulo, deputy director of the Centro Universitário Maria Antonia. He works in the Arts area, with an emphasis on Dramaturgy, and conducts research and studies on the relationship between Theater and Society. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
