Bachelor's in Comparative American Studies from the University of Warwick (1987), Master's in History (Comparative Literature) from the University of Warwick (1988), Master's in Computation from the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology - UMIST (1993) and Doctorate in Science & Technology Policy from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2001). Currently works as a university lecturer and researcher in the Information Science Department, at the Federal University of São Carlos, S.P., Brazil, currently holding the posts of Programme Coordinator for the post-graduate course In Science, Technology and Society (PPGCTS-UFSCar), as well as teaching and supervising on the postgraduate course in Library and Information Science (PPGCI-UFSCar). Was the Coordinator of the Working Group for Implanting UFSCar´s Institutional Repository. Is member of the Editorial Committee of the University Press-UFSCar (EDUFSCar). Has research experience in the Social Studies of Science and Technology and Information Science, focussing on Scientific Communication Processes, in the following subjects: Public Understanding of Science & Technology, Sustainable Development & Communication, Information Users and Literacy, Scientific Communication and Open Access.
