She is graduate at Licenciatura Em Letras Português Inglês from Universidade Federal do Paraná (1982), master's in Linguistics from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1988) and ph.d. in Linguistics from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (1995). From 2014 to 2015 she stayed at the Sociolinguistics Laboratory of the University of Ottawa, as a visiting scholar. She has experience in Linguistics, focusing on Sociolinguistics and Historical Linguistics, specially on the following subjects: Brazilian Portuguese, Linguistic Variation and Change, Verbal Morphology, Morphosyntax, Syntax (order, predication, complementation); correlations between textual genre, style, norm(s), identity and linguístic variation and change.
