João Sette Whitaker Ferreira

Full Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at USP, and director od the faculty (2022/12 to 2026/12) Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of São Paulo (1990) and in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (1993), Master in Political Science from the University of São Paulo (1998), Doctor in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of São Paulo (2003) and Associate Professor also by FAUUSP (2013). Professor since May 2022. Award for best doctoral thesis, in 2005, by the National Association for Research and Graduate Studies in Urban and Regional Planning (ANPUR). Doctorate Honoris Causa awarded by the University of Lyon/Jean Monnet - St Etienne, France (2017). He has been a professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo since 2000 and was President of the CPG - FAUUSP Graduate Commission from 2017 to 2020. Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Housing and Human Settlements (LabHab) at FAUUSP, since 1998 , which he coordinated between 2010 and 2016. CNPq Productivity Scholarship Level 2. Coordinator of Fapesp-ANR Thematic Project, from 2020 to 2024. Visiting Professor 2011-2012 at the Institut de Hautes Études de l'Amérique Latine - IHEAL, Université de Paris 3 - Sorbonne Nouvelle, and Université Jean Monnet, in St Etienne, France, from 2014 to 2018. Visiting professor at Ecole d'Architecture, de la Ville et des territoires de Marne-La-Vallée, France (2018), and laureate Chaire BSI-Citydev at the Free University of Brussels (2018). Listed in the AD Scientific Index Ranking for Scientists - Top 10,000 Scientists Latin America (position 5285). He works as a professor and consultant for public policies on the following topics: social housing, urban environmental development, urban instruments and city statute, urban economy and real estate market, globalization and global cities. Author of the book "The myth of the global city: the role of ideology in the production of urban space" (Vozes, 2007), of "Producing houses or building cities? Challenges for a new urban Brazil" (Coordinator - FUPAM/LabHab-FAUUSP , 2012) and several book chapters and articles. He was Housing Secretary of the Municipality of São Paulo (2016).
