Luciano Guimarães is an associate professor of the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA-USP), acting within the courses of Journalism and Publishing, teaching disciplines oriented towards Visual Journalism and Editorial Design and overseeing the visual production of Jornal do Campus and Notícias do Jardim São Remo, two student-run newspapers. In the Communication Science Graduate Program of ECA-USP, Guimarães was responsible for the discipline ?Foundations for a Critique of Image applied to Visual Journalism? during the academic year of 2016. Guimarães researches, orients, and acts within the field of Communications, with an emphasis in Visual Journalism and Editorial Design, Color Theory, and Image Theory. He is the author of books on colors in media and one book on visual journalism and news design. He also organizes books on communications and images, and he has written articles and chapters for books on visual journalism. Guimarães has an habilitation (professorship) in Visual Journalism granted by the São Paulo State University, where he has coordinated the Communications Graduate Program from June 2007 to February 2011. He is a co-coordinator of the Image Politics Research Group, which aims to contribute towards the comprehension of the cultural systems that rule communications through critical analysis of the mediation processes, cultural systems, and image circulations understood as ?image politics? in the scope of Communications, especially photography, editorial design, visual journalism, and other visual narratives of contemporaneity. Currently, he is the vice president of the ECA-USP Research Commission, member of both the ECA-USP Assembly and the vice president of the Department of Journalism and Publishing of ECA-USP.
