Cristiano Mattos holds a degree in Physics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, a Master's in Science Teaching, with an emphasis on Epistemology of Physics, and a Ph.D. in Physics, with an emphasis on Artificial Cognitive Systems, from the University of São Paulo. He is currently a Lecturer at the Physics Institute of the University of São Paulo and leader of the Research Group on Education in Science and Complexity (ECCo). His research is based on the theoretical-methodological basis of the Historical-Cultural Theory of Activity from a Freirean perspective, with which he develops science teaching activities as an instrument to support an emancipatory and democratic education for social and economic equity. Thus, in Science Education, he investigates the philosophical and psychological foundations of scientific and everyday concepts' teaching and learning processes. He mainly addresses issues such as the relationship between Activity and consciousness, situated cognition, teaching-learning of scientific and quotidian concepts, dialogic interaction models, and complexification of concepts and curricula. He was a basic education teacher for several years, teaching primary and secondary education; Editor of science and mathematics textbooks; participated in the National Textbook Evaluation Program as an evaluator and coordinator; and was chief editor of the Brazilian Journal of Research in Science Education. He is a full member of the Board of the Brazilian Society of Physics and the IUPAP Physics Teaching Commission (C14 Commission). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
