Holds a degree in Industrial Chemistry from the Federal University of Santa Maria (1978), a master's degree (1981) and PhD (1987) in Analytical Chemistryat the University of São Paulo. Completed his post-doctoral studies at the University of New Mexico (USA -1990-1992), was promoted to associated professor (1996) and was selected as a full professor at the University of São Paulo in 2002. He has experience in Analytical Chemistry, working mainly on the following topics: development of chemical sensors and analytical methodologies, with emphasis on modified electrodes, microelectrodes and biosensors and its association with the analysis by injection in flow, batch injection analysis, with amperometry detection or potentiometric. He served as a member of the Chemistry CA of FAPESP from 03/2007 to 10/2013, when he was promoted to Innovation Coordinator at the Institution till 10/2020. He was a member of the CA of Chemistry of CNPq in the triennium 2015-2018. Is member of the editorial boards of the journals Biosensors & Bioelectronics, Electroanalysis, Sensors, Journal of Pharmaceutical Research and Tecno-Logica.
