Associate Professor and head of the Laboratory of Clinical immunology and Allergy (LIM-60), Division of Clinical Immunology and Allergy, Department of Medicine, and Investigator of the Heart Institute/Fundação Zerbini, University of São Paulo School of Medicine. He has experience in translational research on cellular and molecular immunology and immunopathology of human disease, focussing on the following subjects:Chagas disease, chronic Chagas disease cardiomyopathy, vaccine discovery, HIV. Recent emphasis has been on the role of mitochondrial damage, inflammation and genetics, as well as novel treatments for Chagas disease, and identification of biomarkers and vaccine development for COVID-19. In May 2022 he had 167 publications in peer-reviewed, indexed journals. The publications had been cited 5142 times, with an h index of 41 (ISI/WoS). One patent on an HIV vaccine was granted by USPTO and EPO (US and European Community) and pending in INPI (Brazil).
