Ruy Gomes Braga Neto

Ruy Gomes Braga Neto (Lambari, July 16, 1972) is a Brazilian sociologist specializing in sociology of work. Graduated in Social Sciences (1993), Master in Sociology (1996), PhD in Social Sciences at the State University of Campinas (2002), associate Professor at the University of São Paulo (2012) and Full Professor (2019) at the University of São Paulo Paulo. He also conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California at Berkeley (2010-2011 and 2015-2016). His book "The politics of the precariat: from populism to Lulista hegemony" was a finalist for the Jabuti Award in 2013 (the most prestigious Brazilian literary award). Ruy Braga served as a visiting professor at the following universities: École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), National University of Cuyo (Mendoza - Argentina), University of Coimbra and University of California at Berkeley. In addition, he gave lectures and mini-courses at the University of California at Los Angeles, Pennsylvania State University, Friedrich Schiller Jena University, University of Rome 1 "La Sapienza", at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, at ISCTE (Instituto Universitário de Lisboa ), the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL), the National University of General Sarmiento (UNGS) and the University of Witwatersrand. He was head of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences at USP (2016-2020) and coordinates the Center for the Study of Citizenship Rights (Cenedic). In addition to coordinating along with Marco Aurélio Santana the Research Committee (CP) of "Sociology of Work" of the Brazilian Society of Sociology (SBS), he currently chairs the International Cooperation Committee of the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences at USP and is an associate researcher at The Society, Work and Politics Institute (SWOP) at the University of Witwatersrand.
