Isabella Tardin Cardoso

Isabella Tardin Cardoso is Professor of Classics at the Institute of Language Studies at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) in Brazil, since March 2000. Since September 2006 she has served occasionally as invited Professor of Classics at the University of Heidelberg (Germany), where she has also carried on research thanks to several research fellowships from Brazilian foundations (e.g. Fapesp 2008, 2010, Funcamp 2011, 2013), as well as from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2006, 2014, 2019). She served as coordinator of special courses and international interchanges at her Institute (2006, 2011-2013) and as coordinator of the Post-graduation Program of Linguistics (2017-2021). She is co-founder and member of the editorial board of the journal PhaoS Revista de Estudos Clássicos and of the book series Aurora Textos Clássicos. She is also co-founder and a member of the board of three research centers: the Centro de Estudos Clássicos (Unicamp) and the Centro de Teoria da Filologia (Unicamp)/Internationale Koordinationsstelle für die Theorie der Philologie (Heidelberg). Currently she is vice-coordinator of the IdEA, the Institut of Advanced Studies at the University. Research Isabella Tardin Cardoso?s principal areas of research are Roman comedy and the topos of theatrum mundi in Roman literature. She has strong interests in in Cicero?s oratory and poetry, Augustan poetry, on the Reception of classical texts, in the Theory of Philology and, more recently in Law and Literature. Since her first book (on Plautus? Stichus, Editora da Unicamp 2006), she has continued to publish on Roman dramaturgy (with recent contributions to the Cambridge Companion to Roman Comedy, 2019, and the Blackwell Companion to Plautus, 2020). Regarding Augustean poetry, she has just co-published a chapter on the XIXth. Century reception of Virgil in Brazil (2019) and published Remedia amoris and on Dichtung als Spiel in the Metzler?s diccionary on Ovid (2021). Her book Trompe l?oeil: Philologie und Illusion (Vienna/Göttingen 2011) develops her investigation (presented in the chapter ?Theatrum mundi: Philologie und Nachahmung?, Frankfurt 2009) of the epistemological affinities between philology, other sciences, and literature. She held several talks at different universities in Brazil, as well as in other country, e.g., Argentina (2006), Austrian (2010), Denmark (2019), England (2014, 2021), Germany (2006, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2019), Hungary (2010, 2014), Italy (2021) and United States (2013, 2016).
