Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação (Brasil). Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

I have a degree in Physics from the University of São Paulo and a PhD in Geosciences from Rice University, USA in 1981. I held the position of associate professor at the University of São Paulo between 1972 and 1981 and joined the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in 1981, where I held several commissioned positions and today I hold the position of senior researcher at the Earth System Science Center (CCST). My current area of interest is Energy Meteorology, which is a new field of applied science. I created and coordinate the Laboratory for Modeling and Studies of Renewable Energy Resources (LABREN), a multidisciplinary laboratory that develops research and teaching with a focus on Energy Transition linked to issues of climate change, through the use of satellite data, modeling and observational data. I am a faculty member of the graduate program in Earth System Sciences where I mentor several master and doctoral students. I was the national delegate of international committees and scientific projects, of which I highlight the following: NASA's GEOSS-Energy; GEWEX-SCAR- Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research; UNEP-GEF -SWERA: Evaluation of Solar and Wind Energy Resources; UNEP project: Improvement of information for the implementation of renewable energy technology in Brazil, China and South Africa; DAAD-CAPES NOPA Project: Numerical methodologies applied to the Evaluation of Solar and Wind Resources; BSRN-WMO / GWEX Project: Baseline Solar Radiation Network. At the national level, I coordinate the Energy Security subproject of the INCT - Climate Change Program. I was the author and leader of the two editions of the Brazilian Atlas of Solar Energy and currently I coordinate RD projects implemented by the National Electric Energy Agency.
