Agronomist (Universidade Estadual de Londrina, 1982), MSc in Agricultural Economics (University of São Paulo, 1987), PhD in Biometrics and Forest Management (The University of Georgia, USA, 1993). Visiting Professor at Northern Arizona University from 1992 to 1993. Professor at the Universidade de São Paulo since 1984 (Associate Professor II, since September 2013). Main interests in Forest Management, Forest Economics and Forest Biometrics, with an emphasis on decision support systems, evaluation of forest assets, mathematical optimization models for harvest scheduling, information technology for data management and use of LiDAR technology for quantification and qualification of forest biomass. Curently, the main research interest focuses on the quantification and qualification of forest biomass with laser scanning techniques for the development of three-dimensional maps and biometric models for the estimation of different forest populations´ parameters. I have acted as Director of USP´s CIAGRI (Information Technology in Agriculture Center, from August 2011 to September 2014). I was the first coordinator of the Environmental Management undergraduate course from 2001 to 2005 and coordinated the Forest Resources Graduate Program at ESALQ (USP) from 1998 to 2003, where I currently act as its deputy coordinator. As graduate supervisor I have advised 30 students (7 doctoral and 23 master students). In the Federal Government, at the invitation of the Minister of the Environment, I worked as the Executive Planning Manager for the Brazilian Forest Service from 2007 to 2009. More recently I have coordinated and maintained an exchange of doctoral students and researchers between USP and European universities with funds provided by the European Community (2011-2014). Internationally, I have also collaborated with FAO and ACTO, and also as a member of ITTO´s expert panel (from 2008 to 2010) where I acted as chairman in 2010. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
