Guilherme A. Parsekian holds a Civil Engineering degree from the Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar (1993) and a Master's degree (1996, distinction) and a PhD (2002) from the University of São Paulo. He had worked at the University of Calgary as a Postdoctoral Fellow (2006-07) and most recently as Visiting Scholar (2016-17). Prior to his academic career, he worked as a structural engineer designing structural masonry and reinforced concrete buildings. He is currently an Associate Professor at UFSCar, coordinating a group and laboratory dedicated to masonry research and learning, having supervised more than a hundred students. In 2012, he was one of the main organizer and co-chair of the 15 IB2MaC. In 2016, he was awarded ?Person of the Year" by the local National Clay Industry Association in recognition of his close collaboration with the industry and his work as an active member of several masonry codes and standards. Author of four books, including the Brazilian edition of the Masonry Structures: Behavior and Design book. He was a guest speaker in several countries in Europe, South and North America, including at the 9 IMC (Portugal, 2014) and 12 NAMC (USA, 2015). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
