Victor Uehara Kanashiro

Visiting Scholar at New York University Tisch School of the Arts, he is a singer, songwriter and researcher. PhD in Social Science and master in Sociology at the State University of Campinas, bachelor in Social Science at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo and in Economics at the University of São Paulo. In 2017, he launched his first album Kinjo, being nominated as Best Singer (regional) to the Brazilian Music Awards 2018. He is a co-founder of SAMAUMA Rural Arts Residency, a space for artistic research, teaching and creation located in the Serra do Mar (Mogi das Cruzes). Acting in the fields of arts, (trans)cultural studies, water and sustainability, he has been presenting performances and lectures in several cultural centers and universities of Brazil and the world, such as SESC, Itaú Cultura, Harvard Universiy, New York University, Federal University of Paraíba, Federal University of Mato Grosso, World Water Forum, UN Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues, among others. Currently, he is a post-doc FAPESP fellow researcher (FAPESP 2019/02074-8) at the USP Global Cities Program in the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of São Paulo in its interface with the FAPESP Thematic Project (2015/03804-9) "Environmental Governance in São Paulo Macrometropolis facing Climate Variabilities."
