Bachelor in Physics (1962), Doctor (1966) and "Livre-Docente" (1968) from FFCL-USP.Pos-doc at MIT (USA, 1969-71). Staff Scientist at MIT's Francis Bitter National Magnet Laboratory from 1976 to 1979. Full Professor at IFUSP since 1979, Visiting Scientist at FBNML and Center for Materials Science of MIT in several periods between 1980 and 1996. Visiting Professor at Leiden University (Holland) in several periods between 1988 and 1992, and Tufts University (USA) in various periods between 1988 and 2006. Consultant for the Brazilian Navy (1974 to 1984), Advanced Studies Laboratory (Brazilian Air Force, between 1979 and 1983), EMS-Eletromagnetic Systems Company, (Farmingdale, NY, USA, between 1983 and 1988) and Pirelli S.A. (1987-1995) Research interest in the áreas of Magnetism, Phase Transitions, Critical Phenomena, Semiconductors and Superconductors using mainly techniques of Low Temperatures and High Magnetic Fields, developed in collaboration with G. Frossati (Professor at Leiden University, Holland) and patented in the US, Japan and Europe. Since the 90s, has been part of a Gravitational Wave Detection Project with a spherial ultra-cooled resonant antenna. In the Technical area worked in low temperature devices, applied magnetometry, controll of the magnetism of ships, development of superconducting wires and isotopic separation of Uranium. Supervised 10 master degrees, 7 doctor thesis. and several pos-docs. Coauthor of more than 160 papers and more than 100 technical reports. Head of the Department of Materials Physics and Mechanics of IFUSP between 1980 and 1988. From June 2006 to December 2009 acted as "Pro-tempore" Director fo the Escola de Engenharia de Lorena da USP (EEL) which had been recently incorporated by USP. In January 2010 started a four years mandate as the first elected Director of EEL Between 2006 and 2014 all necessary adaptations of EEL into USP were implanted, three new engineering courses were created, with 50% new admitions and 83 new faculty selected. In 2014 was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus of EEL/USP. In 2011 went into mandatory retirement (70 years of age) but remained working, linked to USP by a contract as Senior Professor which is still in force. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
