Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Aeronautical Institute of Technology in 1972, and Master's and Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the State University of Campinas in 1974 and 1978, respectively. He completed a one-year sandwich research internship at the Laboratoire d'Analyse et d'Architecture de Systèmes in Toulouse, France, in 1977, and was a visiting professor for a year at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, in 1989. He is currently a full professor at the State University of Campinas, retired but working as a collaborating professor. He has been a CNPq research productivity fellow since 1985, and is currently in the Senior Researcher category. His main interest focuses on the area of electrical power systems, working mainly on the development of computer models for simulation and nonlinear optimization applied to the planning and programming of the operation of the National Interconnected System.
