Luiz Leonardo Saldanha

I have a degree in Biological Sciences from Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" (UNESP), Master and PhD in Biological Sciences (Botany) from Instituto de Biociências de Botucatu/UNESP, the last part of which was developed at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. I have done three postdoctoral internships, the first at UNESP (IB-Rio Claro), in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology, and the second at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Geneva, Switzerland, with funding from FAPESP and CNPQ. Fascinated by the Brazilian biodiversity, I have a special interest in the search for active compounds from natural sources. I believe that understanding the function of specialized metabolites and how their biosynthesis is modulated in living organisms is critical for modern phytochemistry. To contribute new information to phytochemistry, I conduct research in the area of Applied Botany, with interest in Plant Phytochemistry, especially Medicinal Plants, in the development of chromatographic methods for metabolomics and bioinformatics analysis, plant-pathogen relationship studies and bioguided isolation of active substances. Currently, I am an accredited collaborating professor at the Post-Graduation program in Biosciences in Assis/Bauru (UNESP) in the orientation of master and doctoral students and a post-doctoral researcher at Agroscope (SUI), in an innovation project (Innosuisse), with interest in post-harvest metabolomics for optimization of the production chain of soft-fruits in Switzerland.
