Currently his line of research is focused on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and its interaction with regional economics and development, structural change, and sustainability. Professor Herick is currently responsible for the creation and analysis of a unique FDI database on the local level of Brazil in the last 3 years. The research initiative required the manual checking of more than 40,000 information from individual companies by a group composed of 7 researchers from Brazilian and foreign institutions, 11 master and Ph.D. students, and 4 undergraduate students, and resulted in several publications in international journals. Accordingly, Professor Herick?s created the first ATLAS of FDI in Brazil, something that, given its scarcity in emerging economies, created a new research agenda for them and contributed to the field of International Business and related areas.
