He holds a Psychology Degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1991), a postgraduate degree in Mental Health from the Institute of Psychiatry at UFRJ (1993), a Master's degree in Psychology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1996) and a PhD in Communication from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2002), with complementary training (with CNPq scholarship) at the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology, University of Toronto, Canada (2001). He got his Post-doctorate at The Brown Institute for Media Innovation, Columbia University, NYC (USA), 2015/2016, with FAPESP scholarship. He is a professor at the Faculty of Social Communication and Postgraduate Program in Communication at the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Conceived and directed the ESPM MEDIA LAB (ESPM-SP; 2010-2016). He is an associate researcher at the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology at the University of Toronto, Canada, and the I + D + C Museum at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). He is a founding partner and was president of ABCiber - Brazilian Association of Researchers in Cyberculture (biennium 2012-2013 and 2013-2015). He is the author of the book "Estendendo McLuhan - Da Aldeia à Teia Global " (Extending McLuhan - From Global Village to the Global Web" (Sulina, 2011), "A Comunicação na Era Pós-Mídia - Tecnologia, Mente, Corpo e Pesquisas Neuromidiáticas.", (Ed. Sulina, 2021) and organizer of others on digital culture, such as "Digital Culture Trash_ (e-Papers, 2007), ArTecnologia, vol 1 (Buquidigital, 2012) , vol 2 (Univ. Complutense de Madrid, 2014) and vol 3 (Liquidbook, 2016). His research and studies are mainly focused on communication technologies, media languages, sound studies, media material studies and the Toronto School of Communication, especially the work of Marshall McLuhan.
