Abstract
In humans, the pituitary gland is composed of two parts, the anterior and posterior. The neurohypophysis originates from embryonic neural ectoderm and secretes the hormones oxytocin and ADH. The adenohypophysis is derived from Rathke's pouch, an outgrowth of the oral ectoderm.
