I'm a research professor at the History Institute of the Fluminense Federal University (UFF). I received my PhD in History from the University of São Paulo (USP) and was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University and Unifesp. I coordinate the World Comparative History Research Group (COMMUN, UFF) and I am a member of the UFF Center on Global Inequalities. My research interests are slavery, geopolitics, and world economy in the long 19th century (1780-1945), within the fields of sociology history, critical theory, and global political economy. I authored Politics of Slavery in the Empire of Brazil (2011, Jabuti Prize in Humanities) and Slavery and Politics: Brazil and Cuba, 179-1850 (2010, translated to English in 2016). I edited Cartas a Favor da Escravidão (2008) and Ação; reação; transação (2016). I also coordinate the book series Narratives of Slavery (forthcoming), composed of first-person accounts of formerly enslaved people. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
