Senior Scientist at INPE, National Space Institute of Brazil, at CGCT - Earth Sciences Coordination, developing operational projects in the fields of remote sensing of fires, vegetation fire risk and Antarctic meteorology. Main achievements implemented: NASA´s Aeronet network of sun photometers in Brazil (http://gcmd.nasa.gov/records/GCMD_AERONET_NASA.html) in the 1990s, the Brazilian project of Antarctic meteorology (http://antartica.cptec.inpe.br/) from 1984-2010 incluidng 25 Antarctic missions, and the current operational monitoring of vegetation fires in Brazil (http://www.inpe.br/queimadas/) since 1985. Additionally, coordinated the following projects: Automatic mapping of burned areas with Landsat images, financed by GIZ-Germany through MMA, the Ministry of the Environment (https://queimadas.dgi.inpe.br/queimadas/aq30m); New platform for the monitoring of vegetation fires, financed by DEFRA/UK and the World Bank, also for MMA; New Portal for the country´s "Programa Queimadas" (http://www.inpe.br/queimadas), with funds from BNDES-Programa Amazonia; Improvement of INPE's Fire Risk with FIP and World Bank funding; Brazilian fire-surface-atmosphere system, at FAPESP-FCT/Portugal, and; Collaborative Effort for Biomass Burning Science Exchange, with the University of Maryland, USA, Program SPRINT-FAPESP. Among the ten most cited Brazilian scientists in the decades of 1990-2000 e 2000-2010. Currently assigned at INPE´s Wildfire Program (PPA-Ação 20V9-2). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
