I completed my PhD in Biological Sciences (Biology-Genetics) at the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1991. I have worked at the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) since 1989 and I am currently a Full Professor. I am a reviewer of several foundations and scientific journals and Assistant Editor of Scientific Reports, Frontier in Genetics, Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, Journal of Animal Diversity and Neotropical Ichthyology. I published more than 400 articles in specialized magazines, several book chapters and a book. I have participated in several undergraduate courses in the area of Cellular and Molecular Biology and in graduate programs in the areas of Genetics and Zoology. I have been working with fish for the past 35 years, conducting research in various fields such as: cytogenetics (chromosomes), population genetics, systematics, taxonomy, biogeography, ecology and evolutionary biology. The main focus of my research is the biodiversity of fish in the Neotropical region and, for that, I have worked with many friends around the world to investigate this biodiversity and mainly to study about its origin and maintenance.
