Graduated in Agronomy from Federal University of Viçosa (UFV, 1983), Master's degree from UFV (1987) and Doctorate from Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, ESALQ / USP (1990). He has a postdoctoral degree from the Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Australia (1992-93), and a PhD from ESALQ / USP (1995). He was coordinator of the postgraduate program in Forest Resources (2003-07), chief (2008-12) and deputy chief (2006-08, 2012-17) of the Department of Forestry Sciences of ESALQ. He is currently Professor of the Department of Forestry Sciences, ESALQ / USP. His research is focused in implantation and management of eucalypt and pine plantations. They have been applied for genotypic adaptation and phenotypic acclimatization of plantations in regions with high water, thermal and nutritional stresses. Aiming at long-term forest sustainability, he was a pioneer in research with minimum soil cultivation in the early 1990s. He is the scientific coordinator of the Forestry and Management Cooperative Program (PTSM) of the Institute for Research and Forest Studies (IPEF), which aggregates companies and forest producers with more than 3.5 million hectares of eucalypt and pine plantations. He has edited three books and published more than one hundred scientific papers in journals of wide dissemination and national and international impact.
