Jonei Cerqueira Barbosa

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Catholic University of Salvador (1997), a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2001), and has completed post-doctoral studies at London South Bank University (2008) and the University of London (2013-2014). In the second semester of 2023, funded by the CAPES PRINT Program, he is undertaking a post-doctoral fellowship at Rutgers University, USA. Since 2010, he has been an associate professor, working full-time, at Department II of the Faculty of Education at the Federal University of Bahia. He serves as a permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Teaching, Philosophy, and History of Sciences at UFBA/UEFS, where he held the position of vice-coordinator (2006-2010) and coordinator (2011-2013). He is also a permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Education at UFBA, where he served as vice-coordinator (2013-2017) and coordinator of an Interinstitutional Doctorate class for faculty members of the Federal Institute of Sertão Pernambucano (2019 -... current). He supervises projects for scientific initiation, masters, doctorate, and post-doctorate levels. Since 2010, he has led the Mathematics Education Observatory Research Group (OEM), certified by CNPq in association with UFBA. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the International Community of Teachers of Mathematical Modelling and Applications (2009-2013). He served as coordinator of the Mathematical Modelling GT (2006-2009), the GT for Teacher Training in Mathematics Teaching (2018-2021), and Director of the Bahia Region (2004-2007) for the Brazilian Society of Mathematics Education (SBEM). He is an associate editor and a member of the editorial board of the journal "Boletim de Educação Matemática" (Bolema), Brazil, and the journal "The Mathematics Enthusiast," USA. He is also on the editorial boards of the journals "Boletim GEPEM" and "Educação Matemática Pesquisa." He is a member of the following scientific societies: Brazilian Society of Mathematics Education (SBEM), National Association of Postgraduate and Research in Education (ANPED), and Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC). He has experience in Mathematics Education, having developed research projects in mathematical modeling, curricular materials for teachers, and the training of mathematics teachers, particularly focused on the specific mathematics of mathematics teachers. The findings have been disseminated in over a hundred complete works published as journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings.
