Bachelor of Social Sciences, Master in Social Anthropology from the University of São Paulo (USP) and PhD in Social Sciences from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), he has been researcher at the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (CEBRAP) for over two decades. He is also a founding member of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies on Psychoactive (NEIP). His main field of academic activity is studies on psychoactive drugs, under various aspects (socio-cultural, medical, political, among others), being the author and organizer of several works on the subject.
