Luis Andrade graduated in Medicine at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1980), has medical residency in Internal Medicine at Universidade de Sao Paulo, Ribeirão Preto (1982), and in Rheumatology at Escola Paulista de Medicina (1984). He obtained the PhD degree in Medicine in 1987. He has post-doctoral research training in molecular biology of autoantigens at Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California from 1989 to 1991. He obtained the degree of Professor of Medicine (Livre-Docente) at EPM-UNIFESP in 1995 and the degree of Specialist in Clinical Pathology in 2005. He is Associate Professor of the Rheumatology Division at UNIFESP and the Head of the Immuno-Rheumatology Laboratory at this institution. From 2010 to 2015 he held the position of Chair of the Autoantibody Standardization Committee affiliated to the International Union of Immunology Societies (IUIS). Since 2014 he is the coordinator of the International Consensus on ANA Patterns (ICAP). Since 2011, he is member of the European Autoantibody Standardizing Initiative (EASI). He is member of the Advisory Board Medicine II at the National Funding Agency CAPES. In 2017, he was nominated chairman of the IUIS Quality Assessment and Standardization Committee. He has experience in Medicine, focusing on Rheumatology and Autoimmunity, acting on the following subjects: auto-antibodies, autoimmunity, interface between immunodeficiency and autoimmunity, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, capillaroscopy, gene expression and gene polymorphism.
