bachelor's at Philosophy from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1983), master's at Philosophy from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1987) and doctorate at Filosofia from École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (1993). He is currently full professor at Universidade de São Paulo.
