Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Centro de Energia Nuclear na Agricultura (CENA)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Abdalla, A.L., an Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo, specializes in Agronomy, Animal Nutrition, and the use of Nuclear Techniques in Mineral Metabolism in Ruminants. With post-doctoral experience from Reading University (UK) and UC-Davis (USA), his research focuses on animal production, feed evaluation, and sustainable ruminant production strategies. Since 1985, he has been a researcher at CENA/USP, specializing in nuclear techniques for agricultural productivity. Abdalla consults for FAPESP, CNPq, and international research foundations, and advises graduate and postdoctoral students at CENA/USP. His recent research has significantly impacted ruminant nutrition and methane mitigation, offering insights into methane emission reduction. He explores predictive modeling for herd management and innovative methods for assessing ruminant nutrition, including the use of purine derivatives and creatinine urine excretion as indicators of sheep feed intake. His work also evaluates sustainable grazing practices and alternative feed supplements for ruminants, highlighting plant-based supplements' potential to enhance livestock feeding without increasing methane production. Additionally, Abdalla investigates the role of integrated crop-livestock-forestry systems in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainability in forage-based livestock systems, emphasizing holistic approaches to address environmental challenges (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
