Bachelor's in Physics from Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (1976), Master's in Physics from Brazilian Center for Research Physics (1982) and Doctorate in Physics from Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas (1990). Has experience in several branches of Physics, working on the following subjects: General Relativity and Black Hole Physics, Cosmology, Fluid Theories, Plasma Physics, Statistical Mechanics, Stochastic Dynamics, Kinetic Theory and Galactic Dynamics. He has published more than 180 articles in international journals (Factor h=45 Web of Science, h=47 INSPIRE, h=55 Google Scholar). He completed supervision of 34 Master and Graduate projects, 16 of which were Master's and 18 PhDl, of which some PhD theses were awarded (SBF 2007, CAPES 2007, SAE 2010, CAPES 2012, IAG-USP 2012). The former advisees (most of them with full supervision - scientific initiation to doctorate), are carrying out research activities, are professors at Universities and/or Research Institutes and several are CNPq productivity scholarship holders. In 1997, He proposed and coordinated the Commission for the Implementation of the Doctoral Program in Astrophysics and Cosmology at UFRN. In 2010, He proposed and coordinated the Commission for the Creation of the Professional Master's Degree in Astronomy Teaching at IAG-USP, of which he was the first Coordinator.
