He has a bachelor's degree and teacher education degree in Geography from the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp de Rio Claro) in 1997, a master's degree in Education applied to Geosciences from the University of Campinas (Unicamp) in 2001, and a PhD in Geography from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 2007. He served as Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto between August and December 2023. He was a professor at UERJ between 2004 and 2009 and at UFRJ between 2009 and 2012. He has been a professor in the Department of Geography at Unicamp since 2012, where he became Associate Professor in 2021. He has experience in Geography, with an emphasis on Geographic Education, working mainly on the following topics: Curriculum, Teacher Education, and History of School Geography.
