Graduated in Physics at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the same University. His Ph.D. thesis was the first to employ near infrared spectroscopy methods for Neuroscience applications in Brazil. Prof. Mesquita worked at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH, Boston, USA) and was associate researcher at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, USA). Currently, Prof. Mesquita is a Professor of the Institute of Physics (IFGW) at UNICAMP, where he founded the Biomedical Optics Lab. Since 2011 the lab develops research on light transport through highly scattered media and build optical technologies for biomedical applications such as the study of the rain and cancer. Prof. Mesquita has published several articles in the field - both for peers and for the public, - and holds 2 patents that explore novel methods for near infrared light in biological tissue. He is member of the Education Committee of the Society for functional near infrared spectroscopy (SfNIRS) and associate editor of Neurophotonics. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
