Helvecio was graduate at Agronomist by the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho in 1989. Concluded his Master's in Science by the Center of Nuclear Energy in Agriculture (CENA) in 1993, and his PhD at Genetics and Molecular Biology by the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in 2002. Since 2004 his working at Centro de Citricultura Sylvio Moreira (Citrus Research Center) at Cordeirópolis, Sao Paulo, Brazil, from Agronomic Institute (IAC).
