Professor Edmilson Freitas received his B.S. in Physics from Federal University of Parana, UFPR, (1996), M. Sc. in Meteorology from University of São Paulo (1998), Doctorate in Meteorology from University of São Paulo (2003), with a partial Sandwich Doctorate at Colorado State University (2001-2002). Nowadays, the researcher is a Full Professor at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences of IAG-USP, São Paulo, Brazil, focusing on Applied Meteorology and acting in the specific fields of Agriculture Meteorology, Biosphere-Atmosphere Interactions, and Numerical Modeling of the Atmosphere. Since the conclusion of his PhD the researcher has worked on issues related to urban regions and its interactions with the surrounding areas and associated atmospheric circulations, including the application of model results to public policy establishment and actions of civil protection. The Master's dissertation and Doctoral theses that he currently advise are linked to mesoscale severe events and urban problems, especially air pollution, both in Brazilian cities and in other countries, such as Chile, Colombia and Peru. He was an active researcher in the development of BRAMS model, since its first version, which is currently in its version 5.2 and whose code, along with various relevant documentation, is available on the site http://brams.cptec.inpe.br. In the recent years he has worked on the University administration, occupying the positions of Coordinator of the Post-Graduate Meteorology Program, President of the IAG-USP Post-Graduate Commission, Head of the Atmospheric Sciences Department of the IAG-USP, Coordinator of the University's Regulation and Appeal Board, and Academic Advisor to the Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of São Paulo, being responsible for the establishment and evaluation of international double-degree agreements. Outside the University of São Paulo, he was member of the working group of the Public Ministry of São Paulo state responsible for the revision of the Strategic Directive Plan for the São Paulo Municipality (Law n 13.340/2002), created by the Attorney General's Office Act N 042/2011. Finally, he is a member of the Brazilian Panel of Climate Change, as a collaborating author of the Working Group 1 (WG-1 ) Scientific Basis of Climate Change in its Chapter 8 Evaluation of Global and Regional Climate Models. He was also the coordinator of the Working Group on "Brazilian Fuels, Vehicle Technologies and Emissions Program (PCVE)", together with the Brazilian Association of Automotive Engineering (AEA). Currently, he is the President of the IAG-USP's Culture and Extension Commission and Executive Coordinator of the Office of the Rector of the University of São Paulo and Member of the Climate Change Steering Committee of the State of São Paulo.
