Has degree in Mathematics from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Julio de Mesquita Filho (1977), MA in Mathematics from the University of São Paulo (1981), M Sc In Numerical Analysis - Oxford University Computing Laboratory (1983) and Ph D In Numerical Analysis - Oxford University Computing Laboratory (1987). Director of ICMC-USP 2006-2010, president of the Brazilian Society of Computational and Applied Mathematics for two terms, 2005-2007 and 2007-2009, is a full professor at University of São Paulo since 2000, foreign correspondent of the Royal Society Edinburgh (2012) and member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2014). Works in mathematics, with emphasis on Numerical Analysis, acting on the following topics: Simulation of incompressible flows and free surface flows, finite difference methods, numerical methods for ordinary and partial differential equations and integral equations of Fredholm and Cauchy .
