Graduated in physiotherapy from the State University of Londrina (2000) and in Computer Engineering from the Virtual University of the State of São Paulo (UNIVESP). At the Botucatu Medical School São Paulo State University (UNESP), concluded the professional specialization in general physiotherapy (2003), specialization in nutrition, physical exercise, and medicine interaction in health promotion (2003), and master's (2005) and doctorate (2006) in Pathophysiology in Internal Medicine. He is currently an associate professor at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Campus Baixada Santista, and coordinator of the specialization course in Clinical Exercise Physiology. He is the author of the book Physical Exercise Applied to Pulmonary Rehabilitation. In 2013, he was awarded the Young Researchers Grant from FAPESP with the project entitled "Level of physical activity and fitness and its association with pulmonary function decline in adults in the city of Santos, Brazil" (currently The EPIMOV Study). He is currently visiting scientist in the "Lown Scholars in Cardiovascular Health Program" at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. In 2017 he started, as Principal Researcher in Brazil, the PAUL project (Playful Active Urban Living) in partnership with Amsterdam University, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Utrecht University, and UFSCar. In the PAUL project, he developed a smartphone application to increase the physical activity level of adults. In 2019 he obtained the title of Livre-Docente in Human Movement Sciences in the subareas of Clinical Exercise Physiology from the Department of Human Movement Sciences at UNIFESP. He has experience in human movement assessment and, since 2009, in Epidemiology and Public Health.
