Graduated in Natural History at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Rio Claro, University of Campinas. Master in Genetics and Plant Breeding By the ESALQ / USP. PhD in Genetics and Cell Biology, UNICAMP and Post-doctorate at the University of Texas at Houston, Tx, USA. Professor of Biosciences Institute of UNESP, Botucatu, where works since 1969. Responsible for courses Cell Biology and Genetics of Fish in the college and graduate programs in different courses at the Botucatu campus. Develops researches in Biology and Fish Genetics, with around 419 publications, including books, book chapters and scientific articles. Supervised about 57 master's theses and 53 PhD theses. Responsible for the creation of the Laboratory of Fish Biology and Genetics, UNESP, Botucatu, where conducts research on fish of inland and marine waters. Participates in research groups in Brazil and abroad, developing work in partnership with ICMBIO/CEPTA/ IBAMA; Laboratory of Fish Genetics of the Institute of Biosciences USP; Laboratory of Genetics and Evolution of UFSCAR; Fish Genetics Laboratory - UNESP / Bauru; CAUNESP, Aquaculture Center of UNESP; Laboratory of Genetics - University of Santiago de Compostela, Lugo / Spain; Laboratoire de Evolución Moleculaire - Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris / France and University of San Marcos / Argentina and the University of Algarve, Portugal. Is a CNPq Researcher 1A, coordinating projects on Cytogenetics and Molecular Structure of Neotropical fishes; also develops research on species identification and population structure of fish using molecular markers. Stayed as guest researcher at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France. As general activities served as Chairman of the Standing Committee of Evaluation of UNESP; as Treasurer and Vice-President of the Brazilian Society of Genetics - SBG; acted as the director of the Aquaculture Center of UNESP; Coordinator of the graduate course in Biological Sciences, areas of Genetics and Zoology, UNESP, Botucatu; as the director of the Fundação Instituto de Biociências - FUNDIBIO, Botucatu and Head of the Department of Morphology of the Institute of Biosciences, UNESP, Botucatu. Currently is efective member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and a board member of the graduate course in Biological Sciences, areas of Zoology and Genetics. Also, it is an associate editor of the journal Genetics and Molecular Biology and scientific adviser to FAPESP, CNPq, CAPES, FINEPE, and other institutions. In 2016 was appointed and named Professor Emeritus by the Institute of Biosciences of UNESP, Botucatu, SP. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
