CV Lattes ORCID

Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). Campus de Araraquara. Instituto de Química (IQ)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Costa Rica

Ian Castro-Gamboa achieved his undergraduate studies with an emphasis on Organic Chemistry from the Costa Rica University - UCR (1994) and a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry from the Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar (2000). He did a post-doctorate (2000-2003) in the area of electrochemically active compounds, using HPLC-ECD interface, searching for antioxidants in complex natural matrices. Currently, he is an assistant professor at the Chemistry Institute from São Paulo State University (IQ-UNESP) He worked on metabolomics and dereplication techniques using NMR and computational models aiming at the in situ elucidation of secondary metabolites at the University of Florida, USA, (2009-2010). He has experience in the area of organic chemistry, with an emphasis on evolution, chemosystematics, and spectroscopy, acting mainly on the following themes: bioactive micromolecules belonging to higher plants and microorganisms (especially those associated with the rhizosphere), development of hyphenated analytical techniques and dereplication (mainly NMR) ) for the rational exploitation of biodiversity. He is currently the Coordinator of the NMR Platform at IQ-UNESP, the vice-coordinator of the chemistry graduate program at IQ-UNESP, and a founding member of LAMPS - Latin American Metabolic Profiling Society.
