Graduated in Civil Engineering from the School of Engineering of São Carlos - University of São Paulo (1970), he obtained the titles of MSc. (1972) and Doctor (1982) in Hydraulic Engineering and Sanitation by the University of São Paulo. He was a visiting scholar at the University of NewCastle Upon Tyne, England, in 1985 and 1986, where he completed his postdoctoral program. In 1991, he became a Full Professor of the School of Engineering of São Carlos at the University of São Paulo. He retired in 2014 and is currently pursuing research activities as a Senior Professor at the School of Engineering of São Carlos, USP. He has experience in the Sanitary Engineering Area, with emphasis on Biological Processes for Wastewater Treatment, working mainly on the following topics: anaerobic processes, removal of sulfate and nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) from wastewater, biological treatment of persistent organic compounds and toxic substances.
