Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) in 1989, with a Medical Residency in Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry (IPq) of the Hospital das Clínicas of FMUSP (1990-1992). He completed his Master's degree (1995) and Doctorate (2000) from the Psychiatry Program at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. Specialization in Geriatric Psychiatry from the University of London (Institute of Psychiatry, Section of Old Age Psychiatry) (1996-1997). In May 2010, he obtained the title of Free Professor from FMUSP. He is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at FMUSP, carrying out assistance, teaching and research activities with a focus on Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurosciences. Lines of research focus on the following themes: (1) Clinical and clinical-laboratory research: dementia and cognitive disorders in the elderly (Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment), delirium, mood disorders in the elderly (depression and bipolar disorder); (2) Basic and translational research: pathophysiological mechanisms, experimental models (neuronal cultures), molecular biology, biomarkers. He is currently Head of the Department of Psychiatry at FMUSP. Member of the Coordinating Committee and advisor of the Postgraduate Program in Psychiatry at FMUSP. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
