Undergraduated in Physics and Mathematics (1974) from Universidade de Brasília (UnB). M.Sci. (1977) and Ph.D. (1981) in Physics from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Has worked as a posdoc in the Argonne National Laboratory (Argonne, USA, 1985-87) and as visiting scientist at the Electrotechnical Laboratory (Tsukuba, Japan, 1981), Max-Planck Institut für Metallforschung (Stuttgart, Germany, 1983), San Diego State University (San Diego, USA, 1990), International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Trieste, Italy, 1992), National Physical Laboratory (N. Delhi, India, 2004) and Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Madrid, Espanha, 2005). Has advised 9 Master students (2 as co-adviser), 6 Ph.D. students (1 as co-adviser) and 2 Posdocs.
