Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, UFRN (1992). He was Army Medical Lieutenant (1993). He did Residency in Internal Medicine at SUS-Hospital Heliópolis (1994) and in Internal Medicine (1995), Endocrinology and Metabology (1996-1998) at Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM), Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). Master (CAPES, 2000) and Doctorate (FAPESP, 2004) in Medicine (Clinical Endocrinology) by EPM/UNIFESP. He did a Sandwich Doctorate (PDEE) at the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics, University of Utah (2003). He discovered the genetic basis of Thyrotoxic Periodic Paralysis by identifying genetic variants in a new potassium channel (Kir2.6) in genetically susceptible patients. He did a Postdoc in Developmental Biology at the University of California San Francisco (2004-2006), where he studied FGF signaling in a model of somatic transgenesis. He was co-editor of the Archives of Endocrinology and Metabology (2007-2010) and vice-president of the Department of Basic Endocrinology of the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabology (SBEM, 2009-2011). He was Deputy Head of the Department of Biochemistry at EPM/UNIFESP (2010-2011). In 2015, he became an Associate Professor of the Discipline of Endocrinology Department of Medicine. He is the chief preceptor of the Adolescent-Adult Transition Endocrinology outpatient clinic at Hospital São Paulo (HSP) / University Hospital (HU) at EPM / UNIFESP. He coordinates research projects in Molecular and Translational Endocrinology, especially in Developmental Sex Differences (DSD) and health promotion for the Intersex population. In March 2017, he created the Center for Studies, Research, Extension, and Assistance to the Trans Person - Professor Roberto Farina (Núcleo TransUnifesp NTU) of which he was coordinator until 2021. Esteve Pró-Dean of Extension and Culture at UNIFESP (2017-2021). He currently coordinates the Human Identification Laboratory (LabIH) at the Center for Forensic Archeology and Anthropology (CAAF) at UNIFESP. He works in the preceptorship of multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary care for Trans and Intersex people in outpatient clinics linked to the HU / HSP. He has been advising students of Young Scientist Initiation, Master in Science, Doctorate, and Postdoctoral supervision, linked to the Programs of Molecular Biology (CAPES 7) and Endocrinology and Metabolism (CAPES 5) at EPM / UNIFESP. He was elected councilor for the University Council of UNIFESP and the Congregation of EPM/UNIFESP (2021-present). CNPq level II scientific productivity scholarship holder.
