graduation at Engenharia de Materiais from Universidade Federal de São Carlos (1984) and doctorate at Quimica do Estado Solido from Université Bordeaux 1 Sciences et Technologies (1987). He is currently full professor at Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho.
